The Decorcafe was founded by Debbie Blott, initially running interior design workshops to help people to create more personal homes. She quickly realised that the workshops weren’t enough. Real homes evolve over time and there is a need for ongoing inspiration and support, and connections to people with the skills to help. The Decorcafe was born.
Debbie’s background is in marketing, she started at ICI Dulux, creating and launching new colour ranges, introducing the concept of non-glossy paint for woodwork, Satinwood, and developing retail colour strategies for companies such as John Lewis and B&Q. Moving from colour to branding she undertook the global re-branding of the Walls ice-cream, introducing the heart logo, designed by, now sculptor, Roger Hardy.
Collaboration is in Debbie’s DNA and, apart from helping people to create lovely homes, her greatest passion is supporting talented individuals to launch and develop their own businesses and so set up The Decorcafe Business Club. It continues to be an amazing journey.
Debbie is also the founder of “decorbuddi” a bite-sized approach to interior design and a writer, mainly on interior design topics.
Emma Mitchell came to the first interior design workshop, engaged with the concept and got involved. She has worked in partnership with Debbie ever since. Emma is a lawyer by training. Her meticulous attention to detail is a fantastic asset, coming to the fore when organising our events, but her greatest strength is her un-stinting support for all our community.
Following a similar path to Emma, Sally Bocquet attended The Decorcafe Business Club with a view to setting up a business of her own, The Video Messaging Company, which she has now done. Sally was inspired to set up her own branch of the Business Club in Thames Ditton, Surrey.
Sally’s business background is in TV. Starting her career in a junior role at Channel 4 she moved on to become a producer for shows such as Blind Date, This is Your Life and Big Breakfast and later started her own highly successful casting company, Get Real Casting LTD.
Jo Beresford-Pierce, trained at Central Saint Martin’s and has persued a creative career ranging from PR to making beautiful bespoke lampshades to graphic design for Angels and Urchins magazine. Jo is our creative assistant working behind the scenes on the website and organising our events at Strawberry Hill House.
